Ancillary Task - Horror Magazine

This is my horror magazine cover after I had changed and manipulated some elements within the magazine cover. I am going to illustrate the process of how I decided what to make my horror magazine cover look like through screen shots of each stage. But first I needed to take a questionnaire on which image the audience thought looked best for my horror poster in order for me to grab my audiences attention.

This is my horror magazine cover:

Ancillary Task - Choosing the Font for the Title

Within our ancillary task our group had to decide on what font we wanted to use for our poster and magazine cover and we all had to decide what we wanted to use together. There were multiple choices we decided to choose from for the font and these were:

Pitch - What I'm Going to do Next

What I'm Going to do Next!

Then next thing I'm going to do is show the process of my ancillary task and what I added through each stage, I will first show the development of my horror poster then the process of my horror magazine cover. Whilst I show the process of my horror magazine cover I will create a questionnaire to show how I came to deciding on what image to use for the cover as there was two possible choices and I will also make a questionnaire for the audience to see which of my posters are best out of the two different ones.

Getting Permission to Use the Music Choices

Within our trailer we decided that we wanted to use the sinister sound track and in order for us to use this we needed to get permission from the owner of these tracks which was Christopher Young.

This is Ashley emailing the production company for us to get permission to use these tracks within our trailer:

Filming Day Two

Filming Day Two:

Today we decided that we would begin to film actual scenes within our trailer as we now had a good idea of what we needed to do within our trailer and what shots which we wanted to get in order to make our trailer successful.

Today we filmed almost everything for our trailer. We began by getting shots of us walking into the room where Charlotte was tidying her things ans we decided to get a speaking scene as we had planned to do this on our story boards and we need to get all four of us within the shot so me and Jodie figured out a way in which the camera could stand in order to allow all four of us to be in the shot and in order to do this we had to keep the camera rolling as we went out and sorted ourselves out for the scene. We also go shots of Charlotte walking up the ladders into the loft by placing the camera on a board which stood just over the stairs so that we could get a behind the shoulder shot of her coming into the attic, we then got a shot of her from the front coming up the stairs placing the camera on a high angle which is common within horror trailers. The next thing we needed to do was get Charlotte about to find the box by going down into a dark hole where there there is just a box lying there. This show was hard to get as me and Jodie couldn't stand behind the camera as the roof was triangular so we had to curl up behind the camera to see what we were getting within the shot each time.

The next thing we wanted to do was dress Charlotte up so that we could get shots of her whilst she was getting possessed. We decided to use an old costume of mine which looked like an old fashioned dress which is typical to have the victim of the possession in within trailers. We decided to get a number of shots where Charlotte was on her own. The first shot in which we wanted to get was Charlotte sitting on the rocking horse, rocking back and forth with the book in her hand. We decided to place the camera on a low angle shot to show that she had the power and authority, and we then decided in order for the shot to make the audience jump we would get her to throw the book at the camera. We then decided to get a shot where she was sitting looking through the book at the back of the dark cupboard which looked quite creepy. We then decided to get a shot where Ashley tried to take the book off of Charlotte and Charlotte would jump at her creating a sense of tension making the audience jump. We then decided to get a shot of Charlotte walking towards the camera with a saw and the book and we had the camera on a low angle which could only see her feet walking towards the camera with her dragging the saw and this makes the audience wonder what she was going to do with this. We then decided to get a shot of Charlotte sitting with her legs hanging over the edge of the stairs with the book and us going in trying to get the book off of her, to add to this shot we decided to film an over the shoulder shot of the book getting took out of her hand and then we decided to zoom into the book on a certain page which was the 'I have your soul' page which could create suspense.

After all of this filming we decided to leave it for that night and see what Ashley could do in order to begin to put the shots together within the trailer and she could tell us whether we need to get any other shots.
