Music Magazine Pitch!

Music Magazine Pitch:

The next task that we have to do is create our own music magazine. My magazine will follow the current conventions of music magazines today. To help achieve this I have researched many music magazine covers, content pages and magazine articles. These have helped me understand a lot more features of music magazines and feel confident in creating a music magazine and I now know the stereotypical features and conventions of a music magazine.
My project will consist of a front cover of high quality, a contents page with the typical conventions which easy for the readers to understand and be navigated to where they need to be and a double-page spread with a featured article that will be related to the music magazine industry. To create my music magazine I will use Adobe Photoshop and edit all my photos and text on to create a magazine of high quality.

  • Genre: Pop music magazine.
  • Primary Target Audience: Young females aged between 15-25
  • Secondary Target Audience: Young females aged 11-14 and older females aged 26+

Contents Page

Here is my Contents Page which I also created earlier this year:

For this part of the task i began by doing the background first, I did this using the gradient tool on Photoshop using the colours white fading into blue. I used these colours because it is the colours used on the front cover, the blue is took from the logo and the white is used to brighten up the page and also kept a slight house style within the magazine. For the text, I chose the colours black and white so that it stood out against the blue background.  The titles of the pages are wrote in white so that they stand out more and so the reader instantly knows what that page is about. The type of text that I used has been taken from the front cover as this has already been used so it again follows the house style. I used a banner which has been developed into an arrow which persuades the readers to follow the direction in which the arrow is pointing which intrigues the readers to continue reading on. The word 'Contents' is wrote in a larger and different font so that the readers will instantly know which page they are approaching. I used a range of different images which are set around different parts of the school which illustrates the different stories inside the magazine. The images are also put on an angle which intrigues the readers to look at them as they are put in an original way.

Front Cover

Here is my front cover which I created earlier this year:

Before beginning this task we were instructed to go around the school in a small group and take photographs, the photos could be people casually talking, walking or working around the school or posing deliberately in order to capture a perfect shot. The main colours which I used for my magazine were blue, yellow, black, white and purple. I used these colours due to the fact the school logo consists of yellow and blue, the school jumpers are black, the polo shirts are white and the purple was used in order to lighten the page up slightly. I didn't cut out the main image because I felt that using the school surroundings would give the magazine more of a school aspect and atmosphere which I felt was appropriate for the magazine cover. I enlarged my main image so that it fit the whole page and stood out which is a common convention with magazines. I also applied the common conventions of using the school website and twitter on the cover in order for people to look further into the school and find out more information which they wish to receive. Certain words on my magazine are highlighted and outlined which makes them stand out which interests the reader and draws their attention so they will instantly be drawn to the magazine.

The First Task

For the first task for A-Level Media Studies, I had to create a school magazine which included a school magazine cover and contents page. I created my projects using Photoshop.
